Iceland

Introduction

Iceland is the second largest island in the North-Atlantic Ocean. It is the westernmost country in Europe. The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik. Iceland is located exactly halfway from New York and Moscow. It has an area of 103,000 km² and a population of 340, 000 as of March 2019 (Iceland Population). Iceland is filled with many different types of landforms like glaciers, farmland, water bodies etc.(refer to Fig.1) The economy of Iceland currently follows a mixed economy. The fishing industry was the main export of Iceland until 2010, when the amount of tourists in Iceland was 5 times its population. The government system followed in Iceland is a Constitutional republic (the president has all the power). The current president is Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and the current prime minister is Katrín Jakobsdóttir.
